George Ponzini creates functional and sculptural glass constructions using an assortment of glass “parts “. These comprise mostly of flat or sheet glass which can be regular window, textured, black, colored, dichroic, slumped or sandblasted glasses.
In addition glass rods, marbles, tubes and beads are incorporated. These functional items include stemware, candlesticks, bud vases, perfumes shelves, bowls,mirrors and martini pitchers.

He was introduced to glass in 1974, originally working in stained glass. Experimenting with a way to create a glass box without the lead lines of stained glass eventually developed his current technique of grinding and gluing the pieces together. The original work was black and white with a heavy art deco influence. As the style developed he moved away from the deco look and introduced color into the work. His current style, which he has been working with since the mid 80’s, has a signature all his own.

Architecture is one of George’s interest, having considering becoming an architect at one time. Architectural projects include designing several studios and residences, a veterinary clinic, and a couple of major renovations.

The works of George Ponzini have been featured in many notable exhibits and collections including: The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian, Vassar College, Nicolaysen Art Museum, Glasmuseum Ebeltoft in Denmark, and the International Exhibition of Glass Craft in Kanazawa, Japan.
